06 04 Why Do Men Lose Weight Easier Than Women?
Ask any woman and they will tell you – men lose weight faster and easier than women. It may not feel fair, but it is completely natural and normal. The male body naturally has more muscle. And it takes muscle to burn calories, and you have to burn calories to lose weight.
The human body has not evolved or changed much in the last 10,000 years. The same male body is more muscular, which burns more calories. It is the same male body that was designed for hunting, gathering, pushing large rocks, and heavy manual labor, is now sitting at a computer, clicking a mouse. Put that body into motion, burning calories, and all of those muscles lose weight faster than the female body, which was designed to store fat.
The female body was designed for pregnancy, life giving, and providing food to its offspring. In order to do those things, the female body was designed to store fat in order to sustain life. Females have fewer muscles, and therefore, burn fewer calories. Because of the natural design of the female body, females will have to try harder in order to lose weight.
In addition to muscle structure, there are hormones. Testosterone levels are important to weight loss (and building muscles). Again, men have the advantage over women in this department.
There are many factors involved in achieving weight loss. However, it is not in your imagination that men lose weight faster and easier than women. But knowing what we do about our bodies and optimal health, we can create the needed amount of movement to lose weight. Once we have set ourselves on the path of optimal health, including improving our muscles, and eating correctly, we can lose weight, whether male or female.
