Dear Dr. A,
I have two questions. First, left me give you a huge heartfelt thanks! I’m with you, hook, line and sinker. I’m 54 with lifelong disordered eating. The program you have developed absolutely target’s all facets of success. I’m excited to be part of this journey with the whole team at tsfl.
I’m now on TSFL for 3 days. During the last year I was on a medicallly supervised weight loss program and went from 198 to 167. Over the holidays, I went off and rebounded, gaining 10lbs.
My physician had prescribed a RX of Ursodiol 300mg one capsule daily while I was on his meal replacements. He did this as a matter of course for all of his weight loss patients. (He meal replacements are called Nutra-thin). When I went to him last week, to advise that I was changing programs, he said he could no longer follow me for weight loss, as he doesn’t endorse Medifast. I asked about the Ursodiol, he said that the literature suggests that one take it to protect the gallbladder, when consuming less the 1000 calories.
I don’t have re-fills and just a week or two left. What do you recommend? Do you feel that the gallbladder needs protection while having our 5 and 1?
My second question is to say that I have Polycystic Kidney Disease, ADPKD, that is closely watched by my Nephrologist. She knew I was on Nutra-thin, I will advise her about the switch to Medifast. While I’m having more protein then what she would like (70grams of protein), she was in favor of my taking off the weight. TSFL has a bit less protein then the Nutra-thin, so I wasn’t worried about running to her. I’ll see her in March. I have excellent renal function w. great numbers for a patient with PKD at age 54. I had an ultra sound study recently that showed that my cysts had not grown since 2008 studies.
The question is have you had other PKD patients that have followed TSFL/medifast, with great success and little problems?
I can’t thank you enough. I’ll look forward to meeting you one day.

Hi Diane,
We add healthy fat to our daily intake (check your Quick Start Book) which protects your Gall Bladder and keeps it working and healthy. Plus you are getting some fat in your lean and green meal daily. We have had many successful clients following this program and we do not use Ursodiol as part of our plan. I suggest that you check with your physician and follow what she/he says. I am not familiar with your health history and therefore would not feel comfortable making that call. Most physicians are happy to follow their clients when they have chosen to improve their health. Good Luck to you in your Journey.
Health and Happiness,
Lori Andersen, RN
