Why does fat so easily lead to weight gain and disease?

A gram of fat contains nine calories–more than double the calories in a gram of protein or carbohydrate. When combined with too many high-glycemic, processed carbohydrates, our bodies store fat calories at an accelerated rate. Calorie for calorie, fat is much less effective than protein or complex carbohydrates at satisfying your appetite and giving you a sense of fullness.
